James Edwards excoriates Republicans for a poll that shows them supporting amnesty so long as you kiss them before bending them over a wet dripping burrito and call it a “pathway to citizenship” and not the more accurate amnesty.
Well, after almost six years of daily blogging on the subject of illegal immigration I think I know every trick in the book and just a cursory glance at this stinker shows pro-amnesty forces for what they are, lying sacks of stuff that makes flowers grow real good!
Some would say this poll is way off. I don’t think so. If it were radically wrong, we’d be seeing some evidence of it, and we’re not. Compare the tiny crowds that showed up for the recent Tea Parties against illegal immigration with the huge crowds that flocked to the Tea Parties against big spending. Clearly, the average white American isn’t all that concerned about illegal immigration, which should be their number one political priority. Unfortunately, it’s nowhere near the top. In fact, most of them claim to oppose it simply because it’s illegal. If that’s the case, then we should legalize it. If the only reason illegal immigration is a problem is because it’s illegal, then it’s a stupid law, and we should just legalize it. And one of these days we will. And if we’re too cowardly to say the real reasons we oppose it, then we deserve it.
Here’s the thing, much like race white Americans operate on two levels on this issue, on the one hand much like with race they want to be seen as ‘good people’ and having ‘the right attitudes.’ What that tends to mean is they lie to pollsters, let me put it this way, if they didn’t then according to the fourteen thousand polls taken on the subject of amnesty and the gloating emails we would receive from the local La Raza sorts following them amnesty would have passed a couple of dozen times, yet it hasn’t has it?
The four most common tricks they play in these polls are…
1.) Not limiting it to registered voters, as soon as its selected for this it tends to run 60-80% against. Can’t tell if thisis or isn’t but the numbers make me think not.
2.) Over sampling Dems/Liberals, I don’t have access to the tabs on these so I can’t say for sure. Though I do note that they have a lot of folks who say they know very little about the bill, these folks tend to harden against as the actual debate begins and Dems try to lard up the bills with every goodie known to man for their favorite people.
3.) Sloppy or misleading wording, and reading this I note it could be worded better.
4.) Offering only false choices (e.g. mass deportations/amnesty)
Jim mentioned his feeling that the low turn-outs for the Tea Party anti-illegal immigration protests are a good leading indicator that these poll results are accurate? I would caution against assuming that, the Minutemen struggled to put more than a handful out for almost every protest I attended yet many, many amnesty attempts went down in flames.
something we noticed in our advanced studies of the dubious BS the other side shovels in their endless attempts to swamp this nation with anything but white people was how invariably as soon as the amnesty train began warming up at the station and preparing to pull out polling would magically appear suggesting that all was lost, that we should just submit and telling us that we were fools to resist the Borg.
Ahem, well, I believe this is properly called propaganda. it is an attempt to disarm you and get you to lay down your arms before the battle has even been joined. There are many things to excoriate Republicans for but not consistently standing against amnesty isn’t one of them.
Here’s my intellectual challenge for you, no matter what when the CIS or FAIR throw a poll the findings are remarkably consistent. This one backs up another point as well…(important bit bolded for your reading pleasure)
Zogby Post-Election Poll Reveals No Mandate for Illegal Alien Amnesty
nationwide survey of actual voters reveals that Americans strongly support immigration enforcement, and that less than one-third of Obama voters favor granting amnesty to illegal aliens. The poll conducted by Zogby International on behalf of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) on November 5 and 6 also found that a decisive majority of voters believe that an illegal alien amnesty would “further harm the interests of struggling American workers.”

Judicial Watch/Zogby Poll: Likely Voters Want To Rid Illegals Of The US
Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, today released the results of a nationwide poll conducted in partnership with Zogby International concerning the American people’s attitudes towards illegal immigration. Among the poll’s highlights of 1,211 likely voters, conducted October 16-19, 2008 (margin of error is +/- 2.9%): * 71.5% said they agree local law enforcement officers should enforce federal immigration laws, including 51.5% of Hispanics and 56.2% of self-described “liberals.” * 71.5% said they disagree public officials should use taxpayer funds to operate day laborer sites that help illegal immigrants, including 56.2% of Hispanics and 53.2% of self described “liberals.” * 57.1% said more law enforcement is needed to address the issue of illegal immigration while only 7.1% said they believe less law enforcement should be used. 34.7% of Hispanics support more law enforcement while 15.5% said less. Of self-described “liberals,” 39% said they support more law enforcement, while 13.2 percent said less.
C. Data Contradict Other Polls Showing Support for Legalization.
Several advocacy groups and even some media outlets have released polls showing support for legalizing current illegals. However, those polls often gave voters a very limited choice between large scale deportations or earned legalization. This survey also finds some support for earned legalization. However, when given the third choice of across-the-board enforcement with the goal of causing illegals to go home on their own (which is the basis of the bill passed by the U.S. House), the public strongly favored this “attrition strategy” over mass deportations or earned legalizations.

A growing majority of Americans believe that gaining control of the border is more important than legalizing illegal immigrants, and three out of four (74%) say the government is not doing enough to make that happen.
Sixty-nine percent (69%) of voters in a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey say controlling the border is more important than legalizing the status of undocumented workers, while just 21% think legalization is more important.
Only 14% think the government is doing enough to secure the borders.
Thirty-four percent (34%) say the current immigration situation makes them angry, and another 25% characterize themselves as mildly frustrated. For 40%, immigration is just one of many issues.
These numbers are comparable to the findings in a June survey on the same topic. At that time, 83% directed their anger at the federal government, while only 12% blamed the illegals themselves.
Truth is if opposition to amnesty is anything under 65-70% you can assume they’ve played one of the tricks detailed above, in our near six years covering that issue I never saw a trustworthy poll come in beneath that, and 75% was the most typical number of all.

By only offering the extremes i.e. “mass deportations” vs. “various flavors of amnesty” the respondents are not given the choice of increased enforcement and an attrition strategy. This is what’s known in the business as a “push poll,” or a poll designed to achieve a predetermined response. *snip*
You can learn a lot about what the elites really think simply by paying attention to how poll questions are phrased and in some cases, even more importantly, by what they don’t ask. This poll tells me that they have incredibly soft internal numbers for their amnesty dance and they are trying desperately to spin things to make it seem as though all the cool kids support amnesty.
